[Review] Shitamachi Rocket J-Drama TBS

Tsukuda Kohei, a man who gives up his career as a researcher to succeed his father's manufacturing factory strives with his workers to overcome the troubles and pursue their passion in manufacturing.

Though Kohei quits research at the Space Science Development Agency to succeed Tsukuda Manufacturing, he cannot leave behind his passion for developing rocket. The cost for developing rocket engine has put Kohei's company in serious financial trouble. While he scrambles for funds, their rival company - Nakashima Industrial - sues Tsukuda Manufacturing for patent infringement. The company's reputation soon goes down and banks refuse to finance them, but then one of the leading companies in Japan, Teikoku Heavy Industries, offers to buy a Tsukuda's patent for 2 billion yen. Although the company is heavily in debt and desperately needs the cash, the patent is what the engineers put their dreams. Kohei - a president who is responsible for the living of his workers - faces a difficult judgement to make. -- TBS, D-addicts

It's been a while since i watching Japanese drama. Back then, i can't found WOWOW drama, so picked this one which is has a good rating They make the WOWOW version soon!

Abe Hiroshi as a hero in this drama pull out the character very well, no doubt he got an award of his acting in this drama. As a owner of the factory, he gains a lot pressure from the clients and people around him, including his own daughter. He has a big ambition after drop his dreams as a researcher for a Rocket company and should managed a manufacture factory, which is, not his plate of sweets. I can feel the depression, anxiety, hopes, sadness, passion, happiness, and other emotions in this drama.

For me who're not understand about engines, i can't  really imagine how his product can turn into a perfect material for a rocket. Maybe for you, who engineers, it's really your cup of tea. BUT, the drama served the explanation about this product, a valve. The main product, the data, picture, and they make a cg for it! A very detail about valve. 

It's a typical grew-together-kinda-drama, had a progress, and not monotone which has a same pattern in each episodes. They served a failure, learning, process, and success. That's why I like this drama. Even though it's a serious one, sometimes they put some jokes for make it feels humanity. Like the interaction between Abe Hiroshi and other employee, when he yelling like crazy and his employee just staring confused. 

Another cast, Tsuchiya Tao as his daughter, make a small punch in this drama. I like her acting in Mare, but in this drama, she looks so dimmed. Just like a side dish for dinner. But for the villains part, as good as Abe Hiroshi. 

As a slice of life drama, this one full with struggles, dreams, achievement, and make it true. Suit for people who still struggling with their dreams. Like Abe Hiroshi said, i have a dignity as an engineer, so I proud of it. And I would chase my dreams to make a prefect valve for Rocket. He tell us for give a fullest, and keep trying till success. Because failure, gives a chance and solution.
